Stainless steel is a type of steel preferred for its resistance to rust. This type of steel contains a certain amount of chromium to earn the name “stainless.” The chromium in the steel forms a thin film layer called chromium oxide when the steel comes into contact with oxygen.
This thin film protects the steel from rust, and steel containing more than a certain amount of chromium is called stainless steel.
